DIY French Bathroom Sign

We have a small Pedestal Sink Bathroom in our house.
We have painted our own swirl design to give the effect of an old-world wallpaper feel but with a more modern twist.

But this bathroom screams for an antique french-inspired sign.

And this is what I came up with:

Doing my usual ETSY and coffee in the morning I ran across this download from BENDAY Paper. They have incredibly cute designs I'm drooling over them all!

This inspired me to make a sign for our french-style bathroom.

However- I had no idea how to get an image from my computer to a decorative wood sign.

I found this instructional online by Matsutake.

Followed the directions to the T and This is the result!

The Pergola

This was a feat.
And not just the construction feat.
But the Husband convincing its worth it feat.
One a wife knows well.

My advice:
Step 1: Approach the subject of building a pergola with your husband while making a baked good.
Step 2: After he says no-- just do it anyway.

Cory was not in love with this idea.
He didn't even like the idea as a friend.

So one day, I went to the Depot of Home and bought the lumber.
-You can't return lumber.
-Lumber isn't cheap.
-You might as well build a pergola...

Our inspiration was this:

A pergola at the resort we stayed at on our honeymoon.

Our Outcome was this:

We used:
22 1x3s
4 4x6s
5 2X4s
4 inch Bolts
Wood Screws
2 4X6 L Brackets
3 closet rod hangers
3 2inch wooden rods

Construction:

1.) Stain all the wood.
--- We didn't do this and then later realized we needed the protection
2.) Lay each side down and pre-drill the holes making sure the 4X6 and the 2X4 are square to each other
3.) Screw one 2X4 to two 4X6 stand up in desired location (Using heavy objects or person to brace it)
4.) Repeat for the other side
5.) Use the pre-drilled holes as a guide to attach the two ends
6.)Measure the distance between the middle. Cut remaining 2X4 to fit in between.
7.) Secure L bracket at either end and place cut 2x4 between the bracket.
8.) Place 1X3s on the roof and secure with wood screws
9. ) Mount curtain rod. Making sure to use a level.
10.) Hang curtains.

Easier said than done.
We had no idea how to do this and figuring it out in the moment was difficult.
However, it transformed our yard!
And reminds us of our honeymoon.
You have to love that.

Decorative Pillow

I know... I know... This is pretty done and maybe even approaching over-done status.
But it's cute.
It's easy.
And it's newlywed-tastic.
--And a great wedding gift idea!

My favorite combination.

We made this using Microsoft Powepoint.

1. Use the bracket shape.
2. Inert desired text (his hers)
3. Print on T-Shirt Transfer Paper
4.Cut out close to wording and shape
5.Use desired pillow case (white works the best)
6. Use highest heat setting - no steam

I made these so our cooties wont touch anymore. I mean, I got the shot in third grade, but I never got the booster in 5th. That and they're cute. In my humble 'This is mine and this is yours --Cory that's not yours and that's not what you think it is--- stop you're going to hurt yourself' opinion.

Kitchen Cabinets to Kitchen Fabinets

Before the Terror Began

After the Terror

In an attempt to take our kitchen from stock-looking to rock-looking we opted to paint the cabinets a more modern black color.

  • With an hour's worth of Google searches, and a quick tutorial on eHow. We Started in on the process.
.....What they don't tell you may kill you

BUY:
  • A Smooth Surface Roller
  • (We did not at first and the outcome was horrendous)
  • Floetral
  • (This helps the paint settle evenly)
  • A Bottle of Wine
  • (The reason is obvious.)

In the end, the hard work paid off. A risky risk, a pretty cool reward.
